Corporate responsibility in this whole “going green” thing is slowly catching on with some companies making more of a charge than others. It’s harder than it seems and you can’t really blame companies that are making small steps, there is allot of planning and work to make sure you do it right. So remember way back when, when Dell made a move off the grid by powering 100 percent of its 2.1 million square-foot global headquarters campus, home to more than 10,000 employees, with 100 percent green power? Well heres the follow up!

By stating plans to be completely carbon neutral by the end of 2008, Dell had allot of work to do, while still keeping the company afloat. Well it seems that day has come and they completed their goal four months ahead of schedule! Impressive to say the least and I congratulate them. Dell met its goal early by implementing an aggressive global energy-efficiency campaign and increasing purchases of green power, verified emission reductions and renewable energy certificates. Since 2004, the company’s annual investment in green electricity from utility providers, including wind, solar and methane-gas capture, has grown from 12 million kWh to 116 million kWh, an increase of nearly 870 percent. You can find all the information here and here, there is plenty more to learn.

So I guess this sorta speaks for itself, but you gotta be impressed that such a major company has accomplished something so quick! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we have to get more companies on this train, so one way to help them wake up is not to support their products and supports companies, like Dell, that are making positive steps forward. Mabey say a bamboo Dell computer?

Keep it Green,

Paul
