Today, how you pack your children’s lunch is just as important as what you put in it. Did you know that
It is no wonder school boards across
Use a reuseable lunch bag
Use a refillable BPA free bottle for drinks
Use an insulated hydration bottle for cold drinks or a food jar for hot soups
Put sandwiches and muffins in reusable containers, instead of plastic bags
Avoid pre-packaged, single serving portions of snacks and drinks
Put reuseable cutlery and napkins in your child’s lunch box
These same tips also ensure food safety by avoiding food spoilage and preventing poisoning. Insulated bags keep food cold while an insulated food jar keeps hot foods hot to retain food at optimal temperatures. Besides, these simple ways are also economical – invest in small reusable containers in a variety of sizes and pack your own single serving portions to save money. Purchasing prepared single servings of snack foods, puddings and pastas may save time, but the costs add up.

Thermos® encourages Canadians to stay cool, hydrated and healthy this summer Reusable Thermos® hydration bottles offer key to summer fun and safety
“To safeguard against dangerous bouts of dehydration, adults and children alike, need to continuously refresh their bodies with fluids, especially water and sports drinks,” says Hugh McDonald, Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Canadian Thermos Products.
“Unfortunately,” McDonald adds, “many Canadians overlook the importance of keeping themselves adequately hydrated while enjoying their favourite summer outdoor activities. Even low exertion recreations like gardening, fishing, or sunbathing can pose a health risk as, every summer, thousands of Canadians are admitted to hospital suffering the ill effects of heat exhaustion or dehydration. The symptoms can be severe, ranging from dry mouth, nausea, fatigue and dizziness to potential kidney failure or even death in the most extreme cases.”
According to medical experts, adults should consume approximately 200 ml (seven ounces) of water or sport drinks every 15 minutes while performing moderate levels of exercise. Even when not involved in any strenuous activity, the average person needs to consume two to two and a half litres of fluid per day to keep their body functioning normally. In hot weather, fluid intake should be even greater.
For parents, the need to ensure their children get enough fluids to stay hydrated and healthy in the summer months is extremely important, especially for infants and toddlers under the age of four, who are particularly susceptible to heat-related illness.
When temperatures soar above 30 degrees Celsius, it’s important for anyone spending time outdoors to drink water, or other re-hydration drinks, every 15 to 30 minutes, whether or not they feel thirsty. During these conditions people need fresh temperature controlled beverages at their finger tips.
Thermos® insulated hydration bottles are a great convenient solution, available in many sizes up to 1.5 litres, to keep and dispense refreshing fluids on demand, for up to twelve hours. And what better low cost source for water than your own tap? Filter it clean with a Thermos® Krystal Pure home filtration system, an environmentally-friendly and convenient way to prepare for healthy hydration on the go.
“Canadian consumers are more health-conscious than ever and are looking for quality products that they can trust with their family’s health and safety,” says McDonald. “Canadian Thermos has understood and met this need for over 100 years. We have been recognized for generations as the expert in temperature retention for portable food and beverage containers. Today, the famous Thermos Brand appears on a wide range of ‘at home’ and ‘to-go’ products, including a diverse line of new personal drink hydration bottles.”
Thermos® Hydration bottles are made to the highest traditional standards to meet the toughest demands of today. The high grade premium stainless steel is ultra lightweight, virtually unbreakable, and 100% free of bisphenol-A (BPA). Our patented Thermos® TherMax® vacuum insulation ensures superior temperature retention for refreshing drinks on demand.
Take fresh water from home filtered through a Thermos® Krystal Pure Filtration pitcher. Our activated carbon and ion-exchange resin filter process has been safety tested and approved by recognized international regulating bodies. Krystal Pure reduces the presence of harmful substances that can sometimes be found in municipal tap water, including lead, copper, zinc, chlorine and pesticides. Unpleasant odours are eliminated to enhance fresh taste.
“Canadians are discovering that Thermos® offers a variety of simple, affordable and environmentally positive ways to stay cool, hydrated and healthy in their busy lifestyles” says McDonald. “Whether at home or at school, or at work or a work-out, Thermos® makes a meaningful difference in everyday living”
